START TIME - Sunday 8am
Taking on the Whaka100 is considered one of New Zealand’s toughest single day mountain bike event providing a true test of endurance.  Discover new limits riding in the Pairs Event as you cherish the unique balance of amazing single track accompanied by the brutal 3800 metres of vertical climbing throughout the course.

PRIZE MONEY
Prize money is awarded to the over winning Pair. The athlete must be present to claim the prize money.
1ST $250

PODIUM MEDALS
Podium medals are award to the top 3 male and female riders of each age group, you must be present to claim the medal.

FINISHER MEDALS
Finisher medals will only be awarded to riders who complete the event.

SEEDING
There are  2 seeding potions. To gain the seeding positions you must complete the Whaka TT as a pair. Learn more about the Whaka TT here

100KM CHECK POINTS
The course check points listed below are in the interest of participant safety.  The times are based on a participant averaging 10kmph or less. It is unlikely that this will affect  your race however If you fall behind the timing checkpoints you will be diverted to the lesser distance or withdrawn from the event as listed below.
  • 11:45am 34km, End of billy T **
  • 1:30pm   50km  Green Lake reserve #
  • 3:45pm  76km    Yellow brick road #
 ** This is NOT optional; you will be diverted to the 50km course for the remainder of the event.  When you finish this distance you will be awarded a 50km finisher medal, and maybe eligible for age group placing in this distance.  # If you fall behind the checkpoints at the green lake or yellow brick road you will be classified as a non finisher 

HOW IT WORKS
  1. A pair is a team of 2 at the time of entry.
  2. The pair will participate in the Shootout TT with with the last rider crossing the line to set the time
  3. The time will count towards the teams seeding for the 100km start.
  4. The pair will start the 100km event and must stay within 1 minute of each other through the 100km race, the finishing time is taken from the final rider to cross the finish line.
  5. The results of the Pairs race will be based on the combined TT and 100km time.
 
PAIRS RULES
  1. Riders must ride with his/her team partner at all times.
  2. Any rider may receive physical assistance from his/her team partner or from a fellow competitor. For purposes hereof, “physical assistance” shall mean the sharing of water and nutrition, sharing of bike parts and accessories, assistance with maintenance and repair, and pushing/towing by physical bodily contact only.
  3. No towing of riders by means of any mechanical or physical devices is allowed, i.e. towropes, bungee cords.
  4. A rider is MUST NOT  “double back” on the route at any time in order to reach his/her team mate.
  5. A Pairs riders who are separated by more than 1 minutes from their team partner during the particular stage at any point in the 100km event  will receive a Time Penalty (TP) of 10 minutes.
  6. Team rider separation will be measured at the Start, Finish and Check Points, but can also be enforced at any point on the 100km event.
  7. Time Penalties are not applicable during the TT.
  8. Three (2) TP’s may result in the disqualification of the team.
  9. TP’s will be applied to the overall results
