From what to bring, to what to check out on event day! The Whaka100 MTB Marathon presented by Camelbak is shaping up to be one of the biggest events in the 12 year history of one of NZ's toughest single day mountain bike events. For many, the Whaka100 is a massive undertaking so we have put together some top tips from our event team and event partners to make the event day a bit easier! What to bring? We recommend that each rider considers carrying the following items. The event support can at times be a while away: - Hydration pack or two full bottles. (Check out the CamelBak Chase Bike Vest here) - Energy foods (CLIF Bar) - A pump (Check out the options on the Lezyne website here) - Share tube and/or patches. - Tyre levers. - Multi tool. - Spare chain link (to repair a broken chain). - Sunglasses or eye protection. - Mobile phone, we will have two mobile medics on course and we put the medical teams number on your number plate. - In adverse weather conditions, a seam sealed riding jacket and warm clothing. What to check out on Event day: CLIF Bar is the official 100km aid station partner for the Whaka100. For more than 20 years, CLIF Bar has proudly supported the world’s top athletes by offering high quality sports nutrition made with organic ingredients to help them cross the finish line. They love feeding the mountain bikers of the Whaka 100 and will be providing their newest CLIF Nut Butter Filled Energy Bars to help the riders strive to hit their PR’s. Ride Mechanic NZ are a part of the Whaka100 journey. They will be there with lots of their Kiwi made lube at the event to help anyone who is needing it. Their lubes are perfect for the Whaka100 as they are all endurance blends designed to get you through the distance. Giant Bicycles New Zealand has joined the ranks with the Whaka100 to help you become "one of the toughest". Giant has followed the Whaka100 with interest for a few years now. With Giants revised focus on XC with their new Anthem 29er that Josie Wilcox rode to victory last year, they were excited to support the event for the next two years. Check them out at the Whaka100 this year. Vittoria make awesome MTB tyres with extremely good design and some technology that is way ahead of their competitors. Vittoria chose to get involved with the Whaka 100 event to increase their visibility to the off-road community. Vittoria will have their tyres at their expo site … and free stuff to give away. The Chase™ Bike Vest by CamelBak is designed for those who want a minimal approach to carrying gear on the trails without sacrificing hydration or performance. Perfect to use when you take on the Whaka100! The Chase Vest by CamelBak will be for sale at the Whaka100.
